Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) spinner Digvijay Rathi has been heavily fined following a heated on-field altercation with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batter Abhishek Sharma.
Digvesh Rathi spinner of LSG Suspended
The IPL’s Governing Council has handed Rathi a one-match suspension for repeated violations of the league’s Code of Conduct. This isn’t his first brush with disciplinary issues—he has already been penalized twice this season for over-the-top celebrations after taking wickets. During Monday’s match against SRH, tempers flared as Rathi got into a fiery exchange with Abhishek Sharma, prompting umpires and fellow players to intervene and defuse the situation.
As confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Rathi had violated the IPL Code of Conduct three times this season. He will not play for LSG against the Gujarat Titans and has been fined half of his match money as a result.
An official IPL statement stated that this was his third Level 1 penalty under Article 2.5 of the Code of Conduct this season. In addition to this event, Rathi already received three demerit points from the match against the Punjab Kings on April 1 and two from the match against the Mumbai Indians on April 4.
This latest incident has resulted in a one-game suspension and five demerit points for him.
Digvesh Rathi will be suspended in LSG vs Gujrat match on May 22, 2025.
Rathi will now be formally suspended from LSG’s upcoming match against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on May 22, 2025.
The BCCI has also sanctioned SRH batsman Abhishek Sharma for his involvement in the altercation. The all-rounder for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Abhishek Sharma, was fined 25% of his match money for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s encounter against the Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, according to the official IPL statement.
He received one demerit point for this, his first Level 1 infraction under Article 2.6 of the Code of Conduct.
The Match Referee’s ruling is definitive and enforceable for Level 1 infractions of the IPL Code of Conduct.
